Do you want to make a positive impact with your career?

We focus on how you can choose your career to have the greatest impact├óÔé¼ÔÇØwhether by focusing on alleviating global poverty, trying to prevent future pandemics, trying to prevent nuclear war, and lots more.

Every semester we run a seminar that outlines all of the areas in which you can have the most impact with your career. The seminar *is* a bit of a time commitment, taking 3-4 hours per week for eight weeks. There will be weekly meetings and reading assignments. Food will be provided at no cost to you. We have both a general seminar on the aforementioned topic, as well as cause-specific seminars (AI safety, particularly).

Our group also runs weekly dinners and various different socials.

We are part of a global movement with groups at every top university. We frequently collaborate with Stanford, MIT, and Cambridge. We welcome both undergrads and graduate students.

AB Films is a sub-committee of the Activities Board. AB Films screens movies in McConomy Auditorium in the Cohon University Center on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays nearly every weekend.
The movies are FREE for CMU students (with valid CMU ID), and $3 for the general public. Tickets can be purchased 30 minutes before each film showtime at a table set up outside McConomy.

The Activities Board Technical Committee, commonly known as AB Tech, is the student organization charged with handling the technical production of Carnegie Mellon sponsored events, including all events organized by the Activities Board. AB Tech provides high quality, professional grade entertainment production services, including sound reinforcement, lighting design, and event management at heavily subsidized rates to the Carnegie Mellon University community. Clients include student groups, university faculty & administration, and various independent companies and other organizations.

AB Tech provides technical support in three core areas:
├óÔé¼┬ó Sound Reinforcement
├óÔé¼┬ó Lighting Design
├óÔé¼┬ó Production Consulting & Event Management
In addition to these three areas, we coordinate associated needs and services such as multi-phase/high-load power, rigging & trussing, staging rentals, backline rentals, and more.

All University Orchestra is a community of CMU undergrads, graduate students, staff, and faculty who love to make music. Everyone is welcome to participate!
We have three ensembles: Symphony Orchestra (a full-scale symphony orchestra), AUO Chamber Orchestra (formerly String Theory), and Flutonium (a flute choir). Each puts on one concert per semester, available free of charge to members of the CMU community and the public.
We have an informal placement audition process to ensure we place everybody into an appropriate ensemble and achieve proper balance across parts. No need to stress about these - anybody who wants to can participate.

The American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) describes itself as ├óÔé¼┼ôa nonprofit
professional organization for scientists and engineers who wish to promote and communicate
technical advances in the field of aerosol research.├óÔé¼┬Ø The Carnegie Mellon University student
chapter of AAAR provides a link between students at CMU and the larger AAAR community.
Our student chapter also aims to:
1. Serve the intellectual and professional interests of students pursuing a career in the field
of aerosol research
2. Share these interests with the broader Carnegie Mellon University community
We work towards these objectives in many ways, including, but not limited to:
- Engaging in educational outreach (for example, presenting scientific demos to local
children through CMU├óÔé¼Ôäós Leonard Gelfand Center for Service Learning and Outreach)
- Organizing the Annual Donora Lecture, in which an invited speaker from the field of
aerosol research comes to campus, gives a talk, and engages with students and faculty
associated with our chapter.
- Building a strong sense of community among members through summer barbecues and
biweekly coffee/tea hours.
