Do you want to make a positive impact with your career?

We focus on how you can choose your career to have the greatest impact├óÔé¼ÔÇØwhether by focusing on alleviating global poverty, trying to prevent future pandemics, trying to prevent nuclear war, and lots more.

Every semester we run a seminar that outlines all of the areas in which you can have the most impact with your career. The seminar *is* a bit of a time commitment, taking 3-4 hours per week for eight weeks. There will be weekly meetings and reading assignments. Food will be provided at no cost to you. We have both a general seminar on the aforementioned topic, as well as cause-specific seminars (AI safety, particularly).

Our group also runs weekly dinners and various different socials.

We are part of a global movement with groups at every top university. We frequently collaborate with Stanford, MIT, and Cambridge. We welcome both undergrads and graduate students.

The Activities Board Technical Committee, commonly known as AB Tech, is the student organization charged with handling the technical production of Carnegie Mellon sponsored events, including all events organized by the Activities Board. AB Tech provides high quality, professional grade entertainment production services, including sound reinforcement, lighting design, and event management at heavily subsidized rates to the Carnegie Mellon University community. Clients include student groups, university faculty & administration, and various independent companies and other organizations.

All University Orchestra is a community of CMU undergrads, graduate students, staff, and faculty who love to make music. Everyone is welcome to participate!
We have three ensembles: Symphony Orchestra (a full-scale symphony orchestra), AUO Chamber Orchestra (formerly String Theory), and Flutonium (a flute choir). Each puts on one concert per semester, available free of charge to members of the CMU community and the public.
We have an informal placement audition process to ensure we place everybody into an appropriate ensemble and achieve proper balance across parts. No need to stress about these - anybody who wants to can participate.

The American Association for Aerosol Research (AAAR) describes itself as “a nonprofit
professional organization for scientists and engineers who wish to promote and communicate
technical advances in the field of aerosol research.” The Carnegie Mellon University student

CLASSES: We provide our members with weekly beginner, intermediate, and advanced classes, taught both by experienced students and professional instructors. A sampling of the repertoire includes Jive, Swing, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Waltz, Salsa, Bachata, Rumba, Cha Cha, Samba, Viennese Waltz, Tango, and International and American variations of many dances. We start by teaching the basics, so if you ever wanted to learn to dance, we are the place to start! Private lessons are also available upon request.
EVENTS: Every year, we host a Mock Competition open to viewing, our own home competition (Carnegie Classic) and our own formal dance Scotch Ball along with numerous socials throughout the semester. All events are open to anyone in the Pittsburgh community, and include food, games, and of course, dancing! At the beginning of every semester we also hold "Ballroom Rush," where we provide you with the opportunity to sample some of our lessons and meet our members.
PERFORMANCES: Throughout the years, we have performed at many on-campus events (DS, Dance Marathon, Noche Latina, Casino Night, etc), as well as numerous off-campus gatherings. If you would like us to do a performance and/or teach a lesson at your event, don't hesitate to ask!
COMPETITION TEAM: The competition team is a great chance to push yourself to the next level, and to dance with a group of talented and highly motivated people. Expert dancers and novices welcome - there are levels ranging from Newcomer to Champ, and you register only for the dances you want to perform. Join the CMU team at exciting collegiate and national competitions throughout the semester! We travel all over the East Coast and the Midwest, meet new people, and have a blast.

We are Brain Exercise Initiative (BEI) at CMU, a chapter of a national nonprofit organization that volunteers at local senior centers. Dr. Kawashima is a Japanese neuroscientist who has been studying the brain for 30 years and has found that doing 30 minutes of math and reading aloud 5 times a week causes improvement in memory and some other physical abilities. Camp Kesem is a camp dedicated to helping kids move through and beyond their parent'scancer. Camp Kesem is a national non-profit organization that was started at Stanford University in 2000. Since then Camp Kesem has started 86 chapters and has helped bring a free week of summer camp to more than 6000 kids each year. Camp Kesem gives kids a week to be kids and help them meet others who can support them and relate to what they have been through. It also gives parents a week off so they don't have to worry about their kids. Camp Kesem brings families together and creates a community of support among them. Camp Kesem also helps connect the community to the cause and gives everyone a chance to contribute and make a difference. Kesem means magic in Hebrew and it is said that the kids and counselors make magic at camp.

Carnegie Mellon Solar Racing is a competitive solar racing team looking to promote the use of sustainable energy, namely solar-powered energy, and its use in society. The organization acts as an interdisciplinary space for students to hone their soft skills, tackle complex problems, and learn about building and maintaining a boat. We aim to provide our members with networking opportunities and engineering experience that will go on to serve them in their professional careers.
CMSR designs, constructs, and races solar-powered carbon-fiber boats. Each boat is around 6 meters long and is powered solely by solar energy. CMSR splits has 4 primary teams that design different parts of the boat: Power, Propulsion, Hull, and Optimization. We are welcome all students interested in solar power, working on hands-on engineering projects, or who love just boats.

CMU Club swimming is a fun way to keep in shape and be part of a great group on campus. We have practices 3 times per week, attend 2-4 meets per semester against other schools, and have various social events. We are open to people of all swimming levels, ranging from those that just want to stay shape to those that want to be competitive at meets.

Practices are Tuesdays 7-9pm, Wednesdays 9-11pm, and Sundays 4-5:30pm. Practices are optional and you can show up or leave whenever convenient. We will provide a swim set and equipment to use during practice.

CMU GMB is a chapter of the national organization Global Brigades. Global Brigades is a global health and sustainable development organization that aims to empower rural communities in Guatemala, Panama, Honduras, and Ghana through student brigades. CMU GMB's mission is to aid in this initiative by providing access to medical care and creating sustainable infrastructures in underserved communities abroad. Our organization focuses on holistic health care development of the rural areas we visit. For half of our brigade, we facilitate free mobile clinics. With a team of recruited students and licensed medical professionals, we provide basic and essential health care to underserved communities. A large aspect of clinics also targets long-term health problems by hosting educational talks about dietary health and water sanitation. Educational talks about dental hygiene are also held with the children that visit the clinic. The other half of our brigade consists of public health related projects that include educational presentations and infrastructural projects like laying concrete floors and building sanitation stations. Global Brigades also offers Telebrigades, where we meet with local health care workers to learn about the country's healthcare system and gain virtual shadowing experience. We also believe that leaving an impact in our local community should be just as much part of our mission as our global community. Therefore we will be taking further steps to increase our impact in our local community. Our organization believes that a multifaceted approach that targets health problems with immediate and long term relief can help these communities reach a better standard of living.

The radio club is an organization of people interested in all the activities amateur radio has to offer. Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association (KSEA) was established in 1971 as a non-profit professional organization and has grown to over 6,000 registered members with ~ 70 Local Chapter and Branches, ~30 Affiliated Professional Societies, and 13 Technical Groups across the United States.
The organization's objectives are:

- Foster international cooperation especially between the U.S. and Korea
- Help Korean-American Scientists and Engineers develop their full career potential
KSEA has set up multiple satellite campus groups across the nation, namely universities with a sizeable Korean-American student population. Budō, the martial arts of Japan, are recognized as jūdō, kendō, kyūdō, sumō, karatedō, aikidō, shōrinji kempō, naginata and jūkendō. The Budō arts serve as a path to self-perfection. This elevation of the human spirit will contribute to social prosperity and harmony, and ultimately, benefit the people of the world.

However, in the United States martial arts have evolved towards the infatuation with just the technical ability compounded by an excessive focus on winning or causing physical harm for commercial gain have become a severe threat to the essence of budō. To prevent any possible misrepresentation, practitioners of budō must continually engage in self-examination and endeavor to perfect and preserve this traditional culture.

It is with this hope that the not for profit Mumon Inc. was established in order to offer the principles of budō in the United States. Our mission is to provide access to credible Budō instruction, curriculum, and content through which the student learns the practice of budō, and embraces the correct manners, refines his or her technical skills, and develops the mind and body to become a virtuous human being.

The mission of this club is to connect people who play or are interested in playing pickleball at CMU as well as introduce the game to new players. Our activities include but are not limited to: pickleball lessons, organized singles and doubles match play, and tournaments. This club will also provide equipment for players who need it.

We play quadball and you can too! Inspired by quidditch from Harry Potter, quadball is a unique cross between dodgeball, rugby, basketball, flag football, and track, all while holding a broomstick between your legs. The goal? Score points by throwing the Quaffle through the hoops. Knock out players with Bludgers. Catch the Snitch (which is... a tennis ball in a sock attached to a runner's shorts). It's fast-paced, full contact, co-ed, and totally awesome.

We are a CMU club sport and we practice twice a week, and we compete with other teams in the Mid-Atlantic region all year long. Every year, the games culminate to a Regionals Championships where we compete for a chance to play at the national world cup.

CMU Street Styles is unique because it eliminates the need for auditions by accommodating as many students as possible and does away with the short- term quality of the current dance organizations by holding weekly meetings throughout the academic year. At the same time, CMU Street Styles continues to remain purely recreational as it is free for all participants and non- committal for those who do decide not to perform. Furthermore, CMU Street Styles fills the gap for those who are looking for a hip-hop oriented dance activity. Our mission is to provide an open floor to cultivate dancers' growth in the Pittsburgh area, with an emphasis on freestyle ability. We also host an annual breakdancing and all-styles competition called Battlezone. We have been and will be hosting more dance workshops so be ready for those as well!

Counterpoint was founded in 2000 by Carolyn Weger as Carnegie Mellon's first all female + nonbinary identifying a cappella group. Since then, we have worked hard to redefine the limits of an all treble voices a cappella group's potential.

In 2008, we founded the AcaPittsburgh benefit concert, and we have been holding concerts to benefit local causes and non-profits every year since. We also compete at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) annually; in 2020, we placed second at the ICCA Central Quarterfinals and moved onto Semifinals but unfortunately were not able to perform due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of our other concerts at CMU include No Instruments Aloud, the Carnival A Cappella Concert, and Almost Midnight A Cappella!
