Our Mission
At Alpha Epsilon Delta (AED) at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) we bring together students who are passionate about pursuing careers in the health professions. We build a supportive community where members push each other to grow academically, take on leadership roles, and give back through service. Through workshops, volunteering, and connections with healthcare professionals and alumni, we help each other prepare for future careers in medicine and other health fields. As a chapter, we stay committed to excellence, integrity, and service while creating opportunities that help our members succeed and make a real impact.
Add to this the thoughtfully presented documentation, featuring code highlighting, snippets, class customizer explanation and youve got yourself one powerful value package.
Our Impact
At AED, we focus on creating real opportunities that help our members grow and feel prepared for careers in healthcare. Our members contribute hundreds of volunteer hours across UPMC locations and in the local community, including initiatives like planting trees in nearby parks. We also stay active on campus through fundraising events that support different organizations and help us build a strong presence.
We host hands-on and professional development events throughout the year, including suture workshops led by medical students, MCAT preparation sessions, and application and interview workshops. Members regularly support each other by reviewing resumes, sharing advice, and offering guidance on important decisions like whether to take a gap year or apply straight to medical school. We also bring in guest speakers from different stages of their medical careers, giving members insight into a wide range of paths in healthcare.
With 66 members, our chapter builds a close-knit and supportive community. Many of our members are involved in research at Carnegie Mellon University or through UPMC, and we offer multiple leadership opportunities through our executive board and committee roles. We also collaborate with groups like Doctors of Carnegie Mellon to expand opportunities for our members. Through our Big/Little mentorship program, upperclassmen guide underclassmen, creating a strong network of support that continues throughout each student’s journey.
