The mission of Tartan WCS is to promote the art, enjoyment, and community of West Coast Swing (WCS) dancing within Carnegie Mellon University. This will be accomplished by providing regular lessons and socials for the community as well as providing a space for competitive WCS dancers to grow their skills.
WCS is a versatile partner dance with roots in Lindy Hop. It can be dance to virtually any kind of music including pop, rock, R&B rap, blues, etc.
Common questions:
| What should I wear? | WCS is very casual. Jeans or athlesiure tend to be popular, however if you would like to dress up, that is also cool! |
| Do I need a partner? | Nope! We will rotate partners throughout class so everyone will have an opportunity to practice either each other. |
| Do I need special shoes? | Not necessarily! If you are just starting out, we recommend you attend your beginner classes in your normal sneakers or socks before you decide to invest in a pair of dance shoes. If you would like to invest in a low budget option, low, flexible shoes like Toms or Hey Dudes tend to be popular. On the higher end, suede sandals/boots or plastic sole dance shoes from vendors like Swayd, Taygra, or Fuego Dance Shoes are currently trending in the WCS community. |

Studio B (previously known as Court B) is located on the first floor of the Cohon University Center (CUC) by the squash/raquetball courts. See attached map for more details.
