About Us

The Jared L. Cohon University Center opened in 1996 and quickly become a 24/7 hub for the campus community. Meetings and conferences, special events and traditions, dining, recreational and fitness activities, studying and socializing all take place at the Cohon Center on a daily basis. With the goal of expanding performance, wellness and community spaces for the Carnegie Mellon community, a 62,000 square-foot addition to the Cohon Center opened in May 2016 which includes: a state-of-the-art fitness center with 10,000 square feet dedicated to weight and cardiovascular equipment a spin studio and two additional studio spaces for group exercise classes, yoga, and dance, a studio theater for student performances, a pool spectator balcony, additional locker rooms, a renovated dining facility, a new entrance way and lobby adorned with a donated Chihuly glass sculpture. The center is named in honor of Carnegie Mellon President Emeritus Jared L. Cohon for his many extraordinary contributions to the university, including global expansion efforts and diversity, technology, international education, and economic development initiatives. Cohon served as Carnegie Mellon's president from 1997 to 2013.
