Website Mission

Mission
Our mission is to bring the sport of HEMA fencing to the CMU community. We aim to teach people the art of fencing in the historical styles of medieval Europe. Compared to arts such as olympic fencing which focus primarily on the sports side of things, we also have a historical aspect to our art which spans centuries and can help to put into perspective why the weapons we practice with developed in the ways that they did. We have frequent group discussions about why certain techniques which were so popular in the manuscripts we reference don't work as well nowadays in sport fencing. These discussions allow members to better their understanding of the rationale behind techniques, and become better fencers and athletes as a result.
