About Us

All University Orchestra is a community of CMU undergrads, graduate students, staff, and faculty who love to make music. Everyone is welcome to participate! We have three ensembles: Symphony Orchestra (a full-scale symphony orchestra), AUO Chamber Orchestra (formerly String Theory), and Flutonium (a flute choir). Each puts on one concert per semester, available free of charge to members of the CMU community and the public. We have an informal placement audition process to ensure we place everybody into an appropriate ensemble and achieve proper balance across parts.
